Fact of the day

344951_dinosaur_1According to a recent issue of French magazine Ca M’intéresse, our prehistoric ancestors ate better than we do today. They consumed 3-8 times more vitamins, 3-6 times more minerals, 4 time more fiber and more omega 3, but 10 times less salt.

It’s probably an obvious fact, as back then there were no pesticides sprayed on our fruits and vegetables, no added salts, no preservatives and no additives. Our ancestors ate an ideal diet that many of us wish we could eat but can’t for the temptations of modern cuisine, the lack or expense of organic produce and the practicality of eating organic 24/7.

Taste is widely responsible for the decline in nutrients and our evolving, artificial diets. I even found myself reluctant to cut back on salt because I like the flavour it provides too much. But when it’s your health at stake, how much does or should taste really matter?
